James A. McKee Association

Founder’s Award for

Distinguished Community Services

The McKee Association is a local charitable and educational organization open to men and women of all races, religions and ages. The group’s primary focus is to advance the welfare of Yellow Springs and its citizens. The founders Award was initiated in 2003. (This Award was originally called the Community Leadership Award and was changed to the Founders Award in 2005.) It was initiated in recognition of former Yellow Springs Police Chief, James A. McKee who founded the association in 1994, and is continued by current membership who carry on these values.

The Founder’s Award recognizes and celebrates the tradition of volunteerism that Yellow Springs depends on to meet some of the community needs. Recognition of outstanding volunteer service expresses community appreciation, and encourages others to also volunteer. This award is given annually to an organization, group or individual to recognize exemplary service to the community.

Award Guidelines and Nomination Procedures are as follows:

1. All Nominations must be submitted by March 10, 2023.

2. Nominees may include any organization, group, or individual (living or deceased), within the greater Yellow springs community.

3. Typewritten nominations of no more than 3 pages saved as a hard copy or in a PDF file format must be submitted and include the name of the nominator, the name(s) of the nominee(s) and a narrative stating the nature of the volunteer community service, as well as the reasons why that voluntary community service should be recognized with this award.

4. All of the service of the nominee(s) must be voluntary and uncompensated, and in the case of a nominated group, all or most of it’s members must contribute their services.

5. The volunteer service must satisfy a community need, and provide a significant contribution through a single act or event, or through consistent effort over a sustained period of time.

6. The award(s) will be made each year except under unusual circumstances. Nominations may be carried forward to succeeding years.

7. The members of the James A. McKee Association will in its sole discretion select the winner(s) of the award. The Founders Award will be presented to the recipient(s) at the annual Association’s Award Event – where both the nominator(s) and the awardee(s) will be guest of the Association. Each may select 1 guest. The Event is open to the public at the cost to be determined by the Association. The name(s) of the Awardee(s) will be added to the Founders Award plaque at the Bryan Community Center located to the right of the Village utility window.
